PES 2008: The forbidden screenshots
August 2, 2007
Beautiful screenshots of the upcoming next-gen version of Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 were leaked by Scandinavian site Pelaajalehti.com. Due to an agreement with Konami, the site pulled down the screenshots within minutes. But they were up long enough to find their way to WENB. WENB too took them down within minutes. But they had them up long enough for the screenshots to make their way here. Enjoy!
I’m quite happy with what I see. The match visuals are crisp, the player models look good even from afar. The close-up face models look truly stunning, especially Raul. It’s also evident that Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur are licensed in this edition of PES, and Manchester United isn’t. The user interface looks very clean, a lot better than past editions.
The only thing that bothers me is the fact that so far, we’ve only seen previews and screenshots of the PS2 and Xbox 360 versions of the game. This makes me anxious because I intend to get the PS3 version. The lack of info on the PS3 versions could mean that its still so far from finished that they aren’t confident about showing us anything, and it would (like most cross-platform next-gen releases) see a delayed release. On the other hand, it could be a good thing; the PS3 version could be superior and Konami don’t want 360 owners to feel like they got a raw deal (Konami have said that they’ve built it from the ground up for the PS3).
The ever-reliable WENB also blessed us with another media update, this time courtesy 4Players.de. These screen shots (not in HD) show-off the game’s face editing and custom playlist tools. It also shows the ability for users to upload their own photos into the face editor. Here they are:

FUCKING Konami the English Prem is the best League in the world and they Haven’t got it again Tottenhanm and Newcastle are a small part of the Prem at least before they had one of the top 4. Who cares about the boring Scottish league, the boring Spanish league or the greasy cheating bastard Italian League it takes ages to change the names of the players the teams and the kits to look even respectable(but never perfect) and the badges.
To “I HATE ENGLISH BASTARDS” The royal families of Scotland and England became one in 1603 when James took the English crown after Elisabeth I died. Margret Thatcher was our Prime Minister to its MaggIE not MaggY and our Prime Minister has to share power with the House of Commons and can’t even get separated from the United Kingdom. You are the reason people think that we are stupid get a proper education and learn to use the language you were brought up with (the pronunciation changes but the spelling doest)or learn Celtic.

guys, konami is helpless here. EA has the rights to these clubs till 2009…now if we dont see all these clubs licensed in PES in 2010, we can rightly vent our anger for Konami not negotiating for the rights…but right now two clubs is all theyre allowed to include
51.
Luke | August 17, 2007 at 7:46 am
EA are a lot richer than Konami however, and will probably snap up all the rights again in 2010.

54.
hundredproof | August 19, 2007 at 10:58 am
@ luke
it may not matter if EA is richer…back when EA bought the exclusive rights, Konami was still making a name for itself with its football franchise…when time comes for negotiations again, licenses could be awarded to both companies and not have it exclusive to one….like it is with the NBA (there are three publishers with the NBA license)
55.
pes2008 | August 22, 2007 at 1:33 am
looks like it wil be good. but plzzz tell knonami someone convince them to get the EPL licensed… I want teams Like Chelsea, Man U, Liverpool to have the proper licenses!! Everyone wants the EPL!! Plz consider that!!!
56.
Ren | August 23, 2007 at 11:02 pm
They should have the whole of the Premier League licsensed, afterall, it is the best league in the world. Or, have the top two teams licsensed, but not Newcastle or Tottenham, it doesn’t make any sense.
57.
Jake | August 30, 2007 at 1:51 pm
I’m getting Fifa 08 this year, Pro Evo is crap none of the big teams are lisenced it shit to be honest who’s actually botherd about Newcastle and Tottenham.

u pple dat say pro is shit coz da english teams aint licensed are a bunch of wankers. Y would u go frm pro to fifa it dnt make sense u pple aint true pro fans lyk me even doe i support man utd and dere nt licensed on the new pro i dnt care coz u can just update it so that the english teams are all updated. i have always been a pro fan frm the day iss was out on the ps1. I must say fifa sounds good this year, but they say gd things every year that fifa comes out but it’s always the same shitty outcome. The new pro sounds amazing especially the new teamvison, also the edit mode it bck on xbox-360 thank god after they rushed pro 6.

There could be absolutely no licenses in pro evo, even then it would still be the ONLY choice for real football fans. Why? Because it plays and feels like football. Why do all the pros play it? Cos they know their sh!t, thats why.
Fifa may aswell be F-ing bowls, such is its indifference to the beautiful game.

The release date is actually now October 5th.
71.
hundredproof | September 17, 2007 at 10:56 am
@NathWFC
i don’t know where you got that info from but the Konami press release puts the date at 26th
==================
Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH has announced an October 26th release date for its eagerly awaited PES 2008 title. The 26th will see the launch of the PLAYSTATION 3, Xbox 360, PC-DVD, PlayStation 2, and mobile versions of the game, with the PSP and Nintendo DS versions to follow in November.
Already regarded as one of the most anticipated titles of the year, PES 2008 is a landmark in football. Built around a proprietary adaptive AI system entitled Teamvision, the game monitors the movement and passing of the player, and learns to counter them. By constantly analysing matches against the player, Teamvision picks up on particular patterns to each user’s play, and will adapt its strategies accordingly. This results in more open, fluid matches, the perfectly suit the realism the Pro Evolution Soccer series is renowned for.
PES 2008 also marks the series’ first release for PLAYSTATION 3. Alongside the Xbox 360 and PC-DVD versions, the next generation PES 2008 boasts a remarkable level of detail, with stunning physical recreations of players married to bespoke animations that mirror their idiosyncracies, individual running styles and playing styles. Players also boast facial animation, while the added definition offered by the new formats is shown in the rippling of player kits during the course of a match.
All versions of PES 2008 will also benefit from the series’ intuitive and realistic control system. As with previous releases, the ball is treated as a separate entity, with the timing of shots entirely down to the player. The movement of the ball, the proximity of the player and their varying abilities are just three factors that are considered when a shot is made, while the new AI ensures that defenders work to close down space and block efforts on goal. Similarly, distribution of passes works along the same lines, with players using the space available to them to switch the ball. Close control has also been enhanced with more control when dribbling the ball, and a number of subtle moves added to bypass defenders and move the ball into space.
Working in conjunction with the Teamvision system, every aspect of PES 2008’s on-field play has been reworked and fine-tuned to create the balanced and strategic play of a high-level match. Set-pieces have been improved, with users now capable of nominating taller players to come up for free kicks or corners, while full control is given over the number of players and the position of the defensive wall. A wider range of set piece options are also available to make use of specific talents within the team, and an extensive list of options is also present, from hugely detailed ‘Edit’ modes through to online play.
Such is the clamour for PES 2008, that Konami is anticipating its biggest sales in the series, with several million copies being shipped to European territories to meet demand. “We are extremely confident that PES 2008 will be welcomed as the greatest football game of all time,” commented Kunio Neo, President for Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH. “Demand is massive for what is easily the best Pro Evolution Soccer title to date, and we anticipate record sales as we bring the series to PLAYSTATION 3 for the first time, and unleash stunning versions for all leading formats.”

The reason why only Tottenham & Newcastle are licensed is because EA owns the license to all the teams and only allow Konami to License two teams each year.
You can’t blame Konami, It’s just EA are knobs.
I can’t wait will 2010, (iirc) that is when there license runs out.
76.
Parko | September 23, 2007 at 10:27 am
Don’t worry about the teams not being licensed, just buy the option file off the internet that will update the teams, players, leagues etc etc.

even if teams arent licensed, i just love the pure gameplay
its sooo real, and physics of game is soo good
90.
| January 1, 2008 at 8:39 pm
Exactly – thats the reason we buy pro evo – not because of the licenses but because it is the most realistic game available.
I will take realistic football over licenses any day. besides they are getting better, there are more licenses with each release.
SO WHAT IF THEY DONT HAVE THE EPL LICENSES:
They have the Spanish, Italian, French and Dutch leagues, as well as Rangers, Celtic, Rosenberg, and all these other teams. Along with the real strips for Scotland, England, France etc.
You lot focus too much on the negative to even realize that there are more teams with licenses that there are without it!
Stop your goddam bitchin and change the name from “Merseyside Red” to – “The shit team” or “the team that comes second to Davie Moyes’ Everton”
